Material development

The first thing we prioritize in product development is good starting materials. We have experimented with developing Karen textiles with a team of young female weavers. We had the opportunity to go down to the field with the PhraeRich team to test the usability of the fabric until we were sure that it had good properties for further development into practical products.

Traditionally woven Karen fabric on a backstrap loom can be developed into products that are suitable for a variety of uses. We therefore consulted with the weaving elders to experiment with weaving fabrics of different thicknesses and densities, as well as creating new patterns using traditional weaving techniques.
